2007 Luke Lambert Nebbiolo

As I’m on holidays at the moment I’ve been pulling a few wines out of the cellar to check on their progress. Pretty random stuff; sometimes I take notes, sometimes I just drink the gear. Anyway, I’ll post those I do end up reviewing. This is obviously one of them.

I believe Luke will be sourcing his Nebbiolo from the Yarra Valley in the future, although the 2010 is still Heathcote (and it’s more than tidy too). All of his wines have a perfumed prettiness to them and this 07 is no exception. Florals and turkish delight lead the way with fresh red fruits dominated by slightly sour cherry flavours. Hints of beef stock and a tar driven bass line too. Typical Lambert acidity – almost luminescent in its brightness even at five years of age. Tannins you can get your teeth into – chewy and aniseedy. There’s something else in here, something specific that was on the tip of my tongue. The closest I could get was cardamom pods but that’s not really it. A pure and beautiful wine though with years of evolution left ahead of it. Very Good
