2011 Oakridge Local Vineyard Series Denton Vineyard Chardonnay

I’m posting these four ‘Local Vineyard’ wines next to each other for a few reasons:

- single vineyard wines are surely made for comparative tasting
- Hopefully readers will get a better idea of what each wine offers this way
- David Bicknell, who knows these vineyards much better than I, can have a laugh at my struggles to describe the characteristics that each offers as a young wine.

Located near Yarra Glen in a slightly warmer area of the Yarra Valley. Interestingly this has the lowest alcohol reading of any of the ‘Local Vineyard’ wines – presumably to maintain natural acidity? Perhaps because the flavours develop earlier at this site? It’s fun to guess.

It’s a stylish wine but it is the least of the four releases in my opinion. It feels less structured and less defined. Lemon and spiced apple are joined by an equal share of apricot kernels and baby pineapple. The feel is much more tropical here. It’s a richer wine. Length is good and many will love its character though. Very Good
