“At De Bortoli we believe wine should have a ‘sense of place’”
And so it was, in the year of our Lord 2011, the Windy Peak Chardonnay was no longer sourced from nooks and crannies all around Victoria but instead became a regional, Yarra Valley offering. It’s a cracking release. I poured it for my friend and asked her to guess the price. She opted for $30. I informed he that she had officially discovered a bargain.
This wine is not about complexity. It’s pure and mostly linear. Lemon zest, grapefruit and apple lively up themselves on a palate that is so zippy, so vital that it feels like its dancing. Or perhaps I just got confused with the Goddess (it’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of those bumper stickers). A bare hint of nutty oak too. If the mercury goes up, grab a six-pack of this and chill out. PS- love the new labels Good – Very Good
