I’ve steered clear of these Some Young Punks wines for a while now. I dislike the labels. Their faux hipster-ism irks me. Anyway, that’s hardly a good reason not to have a look at them.
A restrained limey nose with a hint of nutty oak. It’s crisp and linear and oh so modern. A little peachy fruit provides respite on the palate. Certainly focused, ‘mineral laden’ and with decent length…yet it feels sterile and largely unexciting – especially for the price. Good

Interesting that you don’t like the labels. Sure they’re hardly mainstream but I think they’re a little cooler than faux hipster. Or at least I think so. The juice inside can be good too.
I find them lazy and outdated. But hey, I’m sure many like ‘em. The wines can indeed be good. Have a 2010 Shiraz Mataro to write up. Liked it a lot. Very good value too.
Clearly these wines are not marketed at you
As I see it, the artwork appeals to buyers who are not entirely comfortable with selecting wine, and the price validates their own good taste. Wine as an accessory. Well thats my take on it anyway. Shows up at yipster dinner parties, I think the hipsters have moved on already. Goes well with earnest discussions of humane animal rearing, organic farming and food miles from people who’ve never owned gumboots.
Fortunately, the wines seem quite drinkable, if not always exciting.
