I’ve not tasted any of Michael Hall’s work before. Classy textured label, classy wine. Full of personality and interest too. The Roussanne grapes are sourced from the Kalimna subregion of the Barossa Valley.
Overt cheese and bread over nectarine, pear, honeysuckle and green tea. The ginger spiced palate follows suit. It feels slinky and gentle in the mouth but the growing season has provided a glimmering spark of acidity around which the flavours form. Lovely application of oak…not dominant, just a little toasty. I would like to see more structure and definition though - it’s a touch lost in that sea of leesy savouriness. Still, it’s tasty stuff. Very Good

i had glass of this with tapas it was very nice with food. think about trying to buy a bottle or two and putting it in the cellar for 5+ years. do you think it will age well?
p.s a big fan of your blog thank you for all your hard work it is a joy to read.
Thanks for the kind words Alex – much appreciated.
I actually had a couple of glasses of this with a simple tapas dish myself – Pan con Tomate topped with Ortiz anchovies. It worked very well, highlighting the primary fruit flavours. These ‘Rhone’ whites are great food wines when executed properly.
On the question of ageing potential, while I believe the wine will drink well over the next couple of years I wouldn’t look at cellaring it myself. I’m not sure it has the structure to hold it for 5+ years…and, to be honest, I quite like the youthful fruit punch it has now. It may be a lesser wine if it loses that.
cheers
