For my money, this is the most exciting release in the Jamsheed line-up each year. It’s somewhat challenging and unavoidably stalky but the play between pure, ripe fruit flavour and vegetal esotericism can deliver magnificent results.
Dark purple berries sit comfortably atop peppered beef, cinnamon and violets. Cactus and veg are woven into the wine at all points but thankfully the primary beauty of some rockin’ 2010 Syrah grapes is never strangled or effaced. Quite luxe and silky in the mouth too. Texture, perfume, shape and flow – it has it all. Exceptional

I picked up a 2009 the other day at Red Hill Cellars (of all places) whilst on a mission to buy Hitachino Nest beers. I was tasting a $7/btl Griffith red out of sympathy for the very green shop assistant and as my eyes searched for a pot plant or other receptacle where I could politely dispose of the wine I noticed this lonely bottle. Next to find a contemplative couple of hours to try it. Not sure if you reviewed it?
How good is Hitachino Nest. Hitachino goodness.
Keira – I’ve not reviewed or tasted the 09 Silvan. Rightly or wrongly I generally stear clear of Yarra reds from that vintage. I’m far too sensitive to smoke taint sadly.
Looks like I might have to try some Hitachino Nest beer too…
Probably wise, tho it was on at a price that makes it worth a punt.
You owe it to yourself to try Hitachino Nest You’re worth it.
“You owe it to yourself to try Hitachino Nest You’re worth it.”
So I try to tell myself
