Tom and Sally Belford are the people behind Bobar Wines. They make a miniscule run of this Yarra Valley Syrah - 200 cases in 2010 and I doubt that number has increased since then. It’s not a showstopper but damn it’s enjoyable.
There’s a fair whiff of carbonic maceration stink sitting alongside exaggerated bright red fruit. With a little air the floral aspects come to the fore while vegetal/stalky notes contribute depth. Light bodied with attractive sour cherry, sarsaparilla and pepper on the palate. It’s a touch indistinct but the juicy flow more than compensates for any other shortcomings. The rating isn’t that important…this is simply great fun to drink. Good
