2009 Arete Single Vineyard Barossa Shiraz

The vineyard in question lies in the Greenock subregion of the Barossa Valley and the fruit it produces is hefty enough to stand up to the clip of French oak that plays such a large part in this wine’s performance. It’s quality oak too – very creamy and mostly savoury.

Blood plum and boysenberry with red licorice high tones. Hints at blue fruit on the back palate. Smooth barrel work gifts pepper and sweet spice, dark chocolate and coffee grains. Nice tannic grip and appreciable depth. It’s certainly full bodied but it maintains balance and flow. Persuasive in its own way. Very Good
