2011 Fraser Gallop Estate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Clive Otto and Kate Morgan are making some cracking wines at Fraser Gallop. I’ve been guilty of considering Margaret River Semillon Sauvignon Blancs mostly in terms of refreshment rather than quality but this is good enough to make me reassess that mindset.

Mashed bananas cut with lemon, passionfruit pulp, thistle and grass. Utterly beguiling on the nose and it follows through on the palate, where a pleasant sourness rubs up against the sweeter fruits. Underplayed creamy textural nous, impeccable composition and compelling persistence. The palate weight and intensity is bang on. For the record, the big chains have this on the shelves for $16. Ridiculous. Very Good – Excellent
