2010 Giant Steps Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay

The Tarraford vineyard consists of 21 acres planted in the Tarrawarra subregion of the Yarra Valley. Despite having the lowest altitude of any of the Giant Steps single sites, it consistently produces more fine-boned and linear styles of Chardonnay. This is attributed to the cooler micro-climate of the protected valley in which it is located and the gravel seam of sandstone and ironstone running through the vineyard, which provides unique qualities of drainage.

Lemon and grapefruit dominant with mandarin and nectarine chiming in. It’s by no means austere but it is certainly focused. Slightly flinty too. The fruit is fitted to the acid with light, toasty/spicy oak brushstrokes and delicate, soft lees filling out the palate. Lovely now but has a bright future ahead. Excellent
