2010 Coriole Sangiovese

I opened a few bottles of Australian Sangiovese from the 2010 vintage last night and this was the best of the bunch…by a fair margin I might add. Coriole first planted the variety in 1985 so they have a head start over most other producers.

There’s a real sense of composure here. Berry/cherry fruit with layers of earth, Terry’s chocolate orange, aniseed, witlof and bitumen. Supple on entry before slightly furry tannin takes hold, drawing the flavours out towards a satisfying conclusion. Superior balance, texture and flow make this a food wine in the best possible sense. Very Good
