The last of the 2010 Giant Steps Pinot Noirs to be reviewed on this site and for my money, the best. The structure and precision are exemplary with the wine improving on each of the three days over which it was tasted.
A dynamic nose and palate presents red cherries and berries, five spice (heavy on the fennel) and latent, damp earthiness. I’m guessing that the lick of chocolate is imparted by the 18% new oak – for the record, that’s the smallest amount of new oak in any of the single vineyard Pinots. For all the high toned aromatics and lovely flavours it is the measured acidity and its transition into delicate, fine tannin that really grabs me. Time will be very kind to this wine. Excellent – Exceptional
