They didn’t produce a lot of Chardonnay at Curly Flat in 2009 but what was made looks to be very special indeed. Typical Estate aromas and flavours combined with emphatic length and the complexity generated from adroit winemaker inputs may make this the best release to date.
Quite forward on the nose. Tangerine, white peach and nectarine is seamlessly supported by creamy cashew oak. Resin, nougat and restrained funk add character. On the back palate the wine leans into pure citrus, spice and a hint of bitter pith.
Soft but textured, eloquent and expansive; it makes as persuasive a case as any Australian Chardonnay I’ve had the pleasure of tasting. Exceptional
