Pyrenees 14.5% Screwcap $30
Nice label, shame I don’t have an image to put next to this review (amended now. Thanks go out to Pyren Vineyard). Head on over to the winery website and and you can check out the Studio Ink wine label concept “that allows Pyren Vineyard to collaborate with a unique set of artists with a vision to create an evolving range of new and exciting artwork”. I like it.
Unfortunately this Shiraz has suffered from a period of extreme heat that challenged many Australian wineries in 2008. Prunes and stewed plums dominate a pudding like palate with some redcurrants chipping in. Vanilla and mocha oak too. It’s hollowed out and lacking a sense of flow. Alcohol warmth pulls the finish up short. Overall, I just couldn’t find much appeal.

And me? Found appeal. http://www.winefront.com.au/pyren-vineyard-block-e-shiraz-2008/ – I saw a better wine there, warmth, generosity and drinkability. Each to their own, of course.
Yep, saw that this had stood out in a blind tasting you conducted Mike. I wasn't taken with the structure or what I perceived as cooked fruit but it's always worthwhile getting other opinions. Fleshes things out.
