2010 Taylors Estate Pinot Noir

Adelaide Hills 14.0% Screwcap $18.95

Sometimes I can find it a touch difficult reviewing these wines that are the face of retail. Generally they are not wines I would drink, nor are they marketed at me. I wouldn’t be interested in buying this wine but given the limited choices that you face if you walk into say, Liquorland, it’s not necessarily a bad option.

The grapes are sourced from the Adelaide Hills. Cherries, stewed plums and even a little of blackberry. Limited spice, mostly cinnamon. Maybe a bit of vanilla. It’s just varietal enough. The structure is fairly clumsy but then again it’s not an expensive wine, especially in its often marked down form.

The fruit does lack some definition and brightness though. A serviceable wine then and widely available. You could do worse.

Sorry JP, this note brings back some painful memories for me with this wine, from about 4 or 5 vintages ago. I recall it having a good chunk of Clare Valley pinot noir in it back then as well…

Your note bodes very well with me though Jeremy :) I think if you went to every liquor retailer in Adelaide, Taylors might just have the most shelf space in the pinot sections, bottle for bottle. It's an unproven theory of mine though. ;)

    Cheers,

I'd say Taylors shelf & display space is pretty much the same here in Brisbane Chris. Thank god they've ditched the Clare Valley fruit and are now sourcing from the Adelaide Hills!
