2009 Taylors Estate Shiraz

Clare Valley 14.0% Screwcap $18.95

This seems like the best of the Taylors Estate current release reds (mind you, I didn’t receive the Cabernet)…even if it is a bit sweet for my tastes . Did you know that the first release of the Taylors Estate wines was in 1973? Important year that one. Sauvignon Blanc was first planted in Marlborough and I was born.

Concentrated blackberry vanilla swirls with some plum and mocha oak. Supple and round but with decent tannin structure. It’s full bodied, rich and giving. Gentle spice doesn’t hurt either.

If that sounds like the sort of Shiraz you enjoy drinking then the quality is good for the price.
