2008 Yalumba FDW [7c] Chardonnay

Adelaide Hills 13.5% Screwcap $29.95

I believe the first vintage of the FDW[7c] released was the 2006. A gorgeous wine and very much at the forefront of a move towards elegance and restraint in Australian Chardonnay. As many would be aware, the 2008 vintage was a difficult one in the Hills. This may not quite meet the high standards of the previous two vintages but it is a damn fine effort given the circumstances.

Aromatically it’s about almonds and hazelnuts, white peach and pear, mild toasty oak, light honeysuckle and hints of vanilla infused cream and caramel. There’s quite enough lemon and grapefruit acidity giving the palate structure and vitality. Some mealiness adds extra textural appeal without dominating proceedings.

Good value at RRP but even better given that you’ll often find it for a few dollars less.
