2009 Wirra Wirra Woodhenge Shiraz

McLaren Vale 14.5% Screwcap $30

“Come on skinny love what happened here
Suckle on the hope in lite brassiere
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my” – Bon Iver

The 2009 reds from Wirra Wirra have been a good bunch…with the exception of the Woodhenge. Ok, so sweet fruited and oaky isn’t my preferred style, but even within that expression this wine seems discombobulated and, well…a tad thin.

Raspberry cordial, boysenberry, raisins, chocolate, aniseed, malt and rough hewn oak. That oak settles and smooths a bit over time but never enough. Maybe it’ll come good and prove me wrong but over three days of tasting I saw little to give me that impression.

“I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind
In the morning I’ll be with you
But it will be a different kind”

Do you like Bon Iver mate? (I do)

  2. Jeremy Pringle says:

Yep, I'm a fan…particularly of "For Emma, Forever Ago".
