Barossa 11.5% Screwcap $28
I think I may start putting more Barossa Semillon down to age in my cellar. It offers something different to the Hunter (my preferred region for the variety) and you can’t really have too much aged Semillon lying around…or at least I’ve reached that conclusion. I can almost convince myself that it’s helping my liver. Half a bottle of Semillon is almost an alcohol free day isn’t it?
This isn’t a brilliant wine but it’s highly enjoyable all the same, especially served with pasta primavera. Some ever so slightly honeyed, waxy, lanolin development with pleasing toasty notes just starting to come along for the ride. Pretty flutters of vanilla. Grapefruit is the predominant citrus direction over lemon. Some white pear mixes it up as well. The finish could be longer but that’s nitpicking. It’s perfectly acceptable and contributes a little spice.
There’s ample life left in the wine. I’m thinking it’s about 5 years off where I ideally want it to be. Very pleasant indeed.

I've always been disappointed by Barossa Sems, but have never tried the Margaret. Is there any oak?
I don't have any tech specs but I certainly thought I detected oak. Tastefully applied mind you
It's made much like a Hunter Sem. Stainless and no oak.
Bethany and a few others use oak in their sems. I like both styles.
