2003 Hoddles Creek Chardonnay

Yarra Valley 13.2% Screwcap $? Source: Sample

Mr Franco D’Anna

I’m not sure if you can still get this anywhere or what you would end up paying for it. I’m posting a note because the wine provided such pleasure and I want to emphasise how well these Hoddles Creek Chardonnay cellar. The 2003 is certainly in the groove right now but if I had another six bottles I’d still be interested to see where it goes over the next few years.

First impressions are of a pâtisserie being poured into the glass in front of you. Almond croissants, apple danishes and puff pastry treats abound. Freshly creamed butter and porridge drizzled with honey too. These developed flavours are mesmerising in themselves, but there’s still excellent primary fruit in the mix; Pear, nectarine and grapefruit are all hanging in very nicely thank you.

It all eventually ends in a long climax of toasty, spicy notes with the faintest note of basil. A splendiferous Chardonnay if ever there was one, not to mention a pleasure & a privilege to drink.
