2009 Kingston Estate Shiraz

Mt Lofty Ranges, Limestone Coast 14.0% Screwcap $13.99 Source: Sample

I looked at this over two days and my impressions didn’t change at any point. It’s a good quaffing wine at a sound price for those seeking such a drink.

It’s sweet and mouth filling with plum, blackberry and vanilla centre stage. The flavours don’t waste a lot of time organising themselves on the palate. Rather, they throw themselves at you like intoxicated singles at a city club on a Friday night. If you happen to be taken by any of them, they’re there and ready to be enjoyed.

Structure isn’t a feature, although there’s no mistaking it for cordial. It has the requisite, perfunctory tannin and acid. A touch of spice livens things up at the end. It’s a wine that makes no demands, offering generosity at a price point where there is little to be lost.
