Clare Valley 14.4% Screwcap $19 Source: Sample
The price is from James Halliday’s website, there was no RRP sent with the bottle…although it did come in a very swish drawstring bag. You could probably find it in the supermarkets for around $15.
Andrew Graham recently posted a good piece dealing with that old chestnut; bad reviews. He was focusing specifically on small producers. Taylors aren’t small. They are ubiquitous at Liquorland etc. And on the basis of this wine, that’s kind of a shame.
Raisined fruit and menthol with choc/vanilla oak and a stubby, woody finish. Acidity juts out awkwardly and the tannins are broad and hard, accentuating the thin nature of the wine. It’s all knees and elbows really.
The bottle is covered in bling, so someone likes it. All I can say is it doesn’t instill me with faith in the Shanghai International Wine Challenge, or any of the other shows that rated it highly. I can only hope that the flaws are vintage related and that Taylors Estate Shiraz will bounce back in coming years. This was very hard work.

Sorry JP, I have to agree with you on this one. I bought this wine a while back and although I thought it was reasonable value for the $12 I paid; for the life of me I couldn't find anything about it to suggest it's an award winning wine.
Still, like mine, I bet your note wasn't compiled alongside 150 others that day.
Sounds like crap commercial wine. And, guess what, so it is!
