2008 Cardinham Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Clare Valley 13.6% Screwcap $20 Source: Sample

It took me a little while to warm to this one, but I did. It should get better in the short to mid term too. Blackberries and cassis, gumleaf, peanuts and capsicum with a dry leafy finish. Long strands of fine Cabernet tannin draw out the finish.

On day two, it showed a lot better, adding some red fruit highlights, roasted root vegetables and chocolate covered coffee beans. A little spice doesn’t hurt either.

Cardinham have gotten another good result from the tricky 2008 vintage in the Clare Valley, and it may still have some surprises in store yet.
