2006 Vintage Cellars Chalkboard Tempranillo

Spain, Navarra 13.5% Screwcap $14.27 Source: Sample

A rough and ready offering from VC here.  I’d mark it down for the same reason I’d mark it up- the tannins are grainy, thick and abrasive.  But thank god they are there as they compensate for sweeter cordial traits.  Underneath all that is a rustic mid week quaffer that’s ok if you grab it for $9.99 in a dozen.

Red and black cherry berry flavours with snippets of spice, earth, herbs and tar.  It’s got the confected flavours of those mini cola bottle jubes too.  Juicy on entry but the tannin begins very early on the palate.  Needs the right food, mood and company.
