2007 Preveli Cabernet Merlot

Margaret River 14.0% Screwcap $25-30 Source- Sample

Sorry about the price info. I’ve just started a new job so I’m currently juggling a lot of things.

Anyway, the wine won a Gold medal at the 2009 Sheraton Perth Wine Show which means little to me other than suggesting someone else liked it too. Fairly typical aromas of blackberry, plum and red fruit alongside cigar box, chocolate, eucalypt and leaf. The palate is structured well with acidity and tannins of considerable worth. There’s an enjoyable sort of gravelly feeling towards the finish, both in texture and taste. Definitely some kalamata olives in there too, maybe even some roast beetroot.

I enjoyed the minty lift which seemed to flow gently from the leafy characters. It doesn’t hide itself away though, so be forewarned if you’re particularly sensitive to those flavours/smells.

Complex, savoury and delicious. There seemed a very slight lack of “thrust” through the finish. But all in all this was plenty fine by me. Another very good Cab Merlot from the stellar 2007 Margaret River vintage.
