2006 Kooyong Farrago Chardonnay

Mornigton Peninsula 13.5% Diam $52 Source- Retail

The single vineyard Chardonnays from Kooyong see two more months oak than the Estate version but otherwise it’s more of the same; whole bunch, no battonage, wild ferment, no malolactic fermentation allowed.

This wine, from the Farrago vineyard, is very pristine in flavour and texture. Mostly a mix of nectarines and mandarins with hints of lemon and pear, a lick of cream and some cashews and spice. The nose is expressive and quite penetrating and there is an even more distinct mineral element than is present in the Estate wine.

It’s a line and length Chardonnay which doesn’t need a heap of descriptors. Poised and focused, it moves towards an impressive minimalist expression of the grape. Quite persuasive really. This could even get a bit better over the next year or possibly two.

    Hi DM

Nice score for your 30th! It's an excellent wine. I believe you'd know a fair bit more than me about gastronomy but I was thinking certain seafood dishes could be the go with this. A Moreton Bay Bug dish would be my first choice, but that probably says as much about my love of them as it does the wine :)

    cheers
