2008 Pizzini Pinot Grigio

King Valley 12.2% Screwcap $19

Back on the Grigio train, and here is an excellent example. I tasted it earlier in the year at the Brisbane Wine Festival and was a tad disappointed. No such problems this time.

Gone are the beautiful pink/bronze colours of the 2006, which I adored, this is a straw hue tinged with green and a suggestion of bronze. It may make the average consumer feel safer but I must say I prefer the blush of natural skin contact to be apparent in the wine. But that is my only quibble.

Smells of brown pears and nashis, hints of lychee, red apples and some clove like spice. The entry is soft with a little oil before the acidity starts reving up and driving the palate through to a very tangy and quite lengthy finalé of pear (both brown and unripe), red & green apples, salt, spice and lemon zest. The lemon is present from the start actually, before some green melon and peach stones fill out a satisfying mid palate. There is a bit of phenolic grip on the finish which adds to the overall sense of textural complexity that the wine achieves. Lovely wine all up, couldn’t ask for much more.
