For someone more inclined towards inland beauty I’ve been getting to the beach a lot lately. Shared this with a friend over at Coochiemudlo (which still looks and feels the same as it did when I visited it in my younger years). Comforting unpretentious place if somewhat lacking the magnificence of Stradbroke or Moreton Island. Again, well matched to the wine. I’m thinking I might pitch a book on beach and wine matching. Everything else has already been done…
Incredibly refreshing wine with an ABV that makes it completely suited to a day trip. It’s got that neutral Grigio thing going on, something I really like with good food, company & surrounds. It’s happy to sit in the background and add to the ambiance. Though if one chooses to look more closely at the wine, some fairly impressive wine making is readily apparent.
Subtle pears and lemons with pretty florals and a sprinkle of spice. It lacked the briney quality that I adore on the finish of a good Grigio, but hey, I was by the ocean so I could smell and taste some seaspray anyway. I notice that the 2009 release of the wine (pictured) is up at 13%. I kind of like this at 11%, but perhaps a bit more intensity of flavour wouldn’t go astray. I’m looking forward to trying it.
ps- I forgot wine glasses so this was tasted out of McDonald’s coke cups. I thought that was quite appropriate for an Italian style white.
