2007 La Linea Tempranillo

Adelaide Hills 13.0% Screwcap $27

“The truth of the line
overwhelms all other
considerations”
-Leonard Cohen

Thank god they’ve changed the label for the 2008 release. It’s all well & good to say it’s is what’s inside the bottle that counts but really…

Anyway, we have an extremely clean and linear wine here that smells of fresh strawberries, raspberries, peanuts and tamarillos. It’s got a bit of spice about it (cinnamon & pepper) and even some tree bark. The acidity amplifies the vibrant flow of flavours over the tongue and the medium bodied nature of the wine is completely in keeping with the whole experience. Lots of balance & poise actually. My question? Is it “too pretty”?

A friend recently played a part in me watching a couple of episodes of New Zealand’s Top Model. What can I say, my brain needed some relief of the vapid variety. Anyway, the girls on that show were very pretty. Beautiful in point of fact. But I can’t say that form of beauty lit any desire within me. And that’s pretty much how I felt about this wine.

The Leonard Cohen poem above comes from an anthology called “Book of Longing”. And I longed for something else. Sometimes the truth of the line is over-rated.

Oh, this wine is sold out. You can still find some bottles at a retail level.
