Don’t expect to get this wine as cheap as the price above. I think it was a 1st Choice misprint and really, it is far too good a wine to be selling for around $20. But I got lucky. Sometimes you win in the wine retail stakes, sometimes you lose.
Matured in American oak for 14 months. Not something I’m usually that fond of but it works a treat here, integrated and adding some nice vanilla notes. It’s brighter than the 2007 (which I grabbed another bottle of as well) with cherries, blueberries and red fruit. Bit of bacon and sausages in this bottle too. I like it. The earthy Hunter qualities are there but they play under the cooked & cured meats. The 2007 melted chocolate mouthfeel is a bit less velvet-like this vintage but the mocha flavours are still there. Tannins are soft and fine, the finish lingers.
I’m not really sure which year’s version I prefer. They’re both lovely wines so it’s probably a mood call. The nature of the acidity in the structure (mouthfeel/texture) and meat flavours seem to me to be the big differences. Hell, just do what I did & crack a bottle of each.

Saw this for $23 at Dan Murphy's. Not as good as your price but close. On a budget this week so unfortunately had to look the other way. Bummer
Dave
$23 is still excellent! I can only assume Hunter Shiraz continues to have a limited audience…
Oh well, good for the rest of us. If you have the dosh in your pocket that is (Bummer indeed, although congrats on excellent willpower!)
Cheers

Next week will be a different story. My will power has limits
Dave
That's what I like to hear
If you grab the 06 let me know what you think of the meat flavours.
