The 2006 and 2007 of this wine were a bit lighter than the 2005 and the 2008 in my opinion. It’s interesting to see that Tahbilk’s website reckons this 2007 isn’t going to last as long as the Marsannes made on the years either side of this vintage. Well, I’ve some in the cellar, so it will be interesting to see. And at the price, you can afford to explore a vintage of Tahbilk Marsanne quite regularly. This one is starting to develop more character and depth than it had on release, but its yellow straw colour is a good indication that it is still drinking much like a young Marsanne.
The stonefruit flavours are there but are not in any way broad, and the honeyed notes are just starting to come along. There is a touch of youthful pineapple, but it’s departing, which I consider a plus. I found it slightly off putting on release. A fair bit of aromatic power despite the colour and palate, with the waxy, soapy notes beginning to assert themselves on the nose.
The entry is still light, with acid bound peach and nectarine moving into some lovely honey and spice before the citrus shuts up shop on a pleasingly tart and lengthy finish. It will be interesting to see just where this goes. It’s drinking nicely now anyway.
