2006 Curly Flat Pinot Noir

Macedon, Lancefield 13.5% Screwcap CD $46- Tasted 12-13/9/09

“Got me going on again
Around my smile
And I’ve got a thoughtless feeling inside
I’ve got it going on”

This wine does indeed have it “going on”. I opened it thoughtlessly after a strange party, tried to writes some descriptors like dark cherries, boysenberry, silk, effortless power, forest floor, stones. raspberry etc. Then went to bed.

The next day, the french oak had integrated and all I could do was sit on a couple of glasses and smile. It’s long, it feels and tastes great, and for a Macedon Pinot it’s not very expensive. Go buy some for now and chuck some in the cellar. Trust me.

“Why don’t you take a friend
in the shade
Somewhere all the minutes stay around”- Hope Sandoval, ‘Around My Smile’

Macedon Pinot Noir is something I really need to try more of.
The only one I've ever tried was Bindi's 2006 Original vineyard. This was tasted in a flight of top Australian and New Zealand Pinots (plus a Grand Cru Burgundy) and of the all, the Bindi stood out (for me, on the day, et. etc)
Can't wait to try this, my local retailer sells Curly Flat's wines and Im going to get a bottle next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Hey Dave

Macedon is my personal favourite region for Australian Pinot (maybe Chardonnay too, it's up there!). I think Curly Flat stands up well against 2 Bindi Pinots I've been poured. One was a 2007 Bindi Block 5, and that cost a hell of a lot more. The other was the 2006 Bindi Composition. They are all excellent wines.

It's worth having a look at the William's Crossing label that Curly Flat release as well if you get the chance. At around $24 it's from the same vineyards and it's not just declassified fruit.

Some of the barrels aren't seen as suitable for the Curlt Flat label, so they are bottled under Williams Crossing. Excellent Pinots and Chardonnays all the same.

Look forward to hearing back once you've had a taste of this one! As you can see, I largely ignored common desciptors and tried to textualise the pleasure ;)

    cheers
