2012 Kooyong Massale Pinot Noir

imageAs is the case with the Clonale Chardonnay I’m always interested to see how the Massale Pinot plays out each year…even if I usually rate it as a lesser wine.

There’s abundant ripeness here and it corresponds to the sweet macerated red fruit entry and mid-palate. From there the wine moves towards fleshier plums, sour cherries, rhubarb, bark and Asian spice. The tannin is dynamic, threaded throughout the entire palate and the finish is earthy and savoury. Availability and the often discounted price make it a compelling proposition. 91
