2013 Mayer Bloody Hill Pinot Noir

imageAnother offering from Timo Mayer, also known as Lollipop Man, alias the Long-Haired Sucker.

Little in the way of oak static. Some reduction which blows off. Intense raspberry, sarsaparilla, spiced rhubarb and maraschino cherry. Mouth tingling acid, smudgy tannin. Not as much length and depth as the 2013 Mayer Close Planted Pinot. There is some generosity but it has the components to temper it – meaty funk along with a savoury roots and trodden leaf finish. This is still a little tight and in the process of assembling itself…which I’m certain it will. Looked a lot better on the second day of tasting. 93

I paid $27 Jeremy – direct from Timo. Where did you get your price from?

    • Just used last year’s Michael. There weren’t any prices on the sample bottles. I’ll get in touch and fix the RRP up if it’s incorrect. Thanks for the heads up.

Ah. Perhaps it is the right RRP after all – Timo may offer a cheaper price if you buy through him. Can’t go wrong for $27!

Right on the money here Jeremy. Almost a perfect note for the wine. I might say 92-93, but don’t disagree about outright 93 either. Just needs to settle into itself a little more. I thought a little twiggier and meatier than the more open 2012 version. I like both.

  3. I opened one of my 2012s to taste alongside this Michael. Pretty much the same assessment of their differences. Of course the 2012 was a year older but there’s nothing (I’m aware of) that I can do about that :)
