2012 McHenry Hohnen Burnside Vineyard Chardonnay

mchenry hohnen burnside chardonnayThe only single vineyard McHenry Hohnen Chardonnay that comes from a site that doesn’t lie in the southern parts of the Margaret River. It comes as no surprise that it is more brash and fuller than the other two wines.

Ripe peach, fresh pineapple, honeysuckle and ruby grapefruit all vie for your attention. The oak is nutty, toasty and spicy; eminently suited to the fruit profile I’d suggest. The sweetness goes as far as caramel chews on the mid-palate. I’m intrigued by the refreshing mineral line which gathers and arranges these elements, preventing them from sprawling on the palate and providing the core strength to create a solid base from which the inherent power can operate. 92
