2013 Teusner The Empress Riesling

teusner empress rieslingSourced from a couple of vineyards. Sounds like things were kept reasonably simple:

“One vineyard on the edge of High Eden and a small 50ish year-old patch just out of Keyneton. Some oxidative juice handling on the Keyneton batch but High Eden fruit was treated fairly reductively as is typical in Australia. No other funky stuff. Cool long ferments.”

Juicy, almost hedonistic expression of dry Australian Riesling. Apple blossom, ripe lime and lemon extending into slightly ‘fruitier’ notes. Suggestions of melon rind, slate and tonic water. The acidity is integrated and there’s a bit of breadth on the palate – which I quite like for a change. I’m not saying it won’t age but I’d just be slamming it back over the next couple of years myself. 92
