2013 Clonakilla Riesling

clonakilla riesling 2013I’ve tasted a number of Clonakilla Rieslings which have aged proudly and my money’s on this to do the same. It’s heavily structured as a young wine and piercingly flavoured.

Smells and tastes of citrus blossom, lime and fennel with a touch of spice. Dry, chalky and pulls long though the finish. I’m happy to enjoy it now but its best years really are ahead of it. 94+

  1. A few of us at our place of work are with you on this one. Stellar wine, with everyone either highly enthusiastic, or relatively enthusiastic with an eye to wanting to see it with a lot more age. Sometimes, I believe that the oily youthfulness of our SA greats makes a number of Riesling lovers a bit over cautious when they don’t see that quality in examples from elsewhere. Many seem to subconsciously rate a wine like this with that too much in mind.

  2. Everyone raving about this wine. We sold a fair bit of it and I didn’t get around to buying any. Now sold out at the winery – might have to do the unthinkable and visit Dan’s!

  3. That’s where I got my bottle(s) :)
