André Clouet Rosé Brut NV

andre clouet roseThe village of Bouzy in Champagne is Pinot Noir country and that’s the only variety used in this Rosé. I was actually introduced to the wine by Dan Buckle of Chandon in the Yarra Valley and the word he used to capture his fascination with the wine was “tension”. I can’t think of a better descriptor. Imported by Beaune and Beyond.

There is red fruited body and richness - cherries and pom fruit – but it’s juxtaposed with a strong cut of punchy grapefruit and lemon. Further complexity in the way of pepper, spiced orange rind, mushrooms and a hint of shortbread. A wine of some density and phenolic structure. Delicious and fascinating. 94
