2012 Montalto The Eleven Vineyard Chardonnay

image

The 2012 Montalto Pinot Noirs imparted the firm impression that the winery and maker Simon Black were on the right path and these 2012 single vineyard Chardonnays back that up.

Serve this in a Burgundy bowl to get the most out of it. A haze of lees departs with air and the wine gains definition. Grapefruit, pith, nectarine and melon. Mealy texture, creamy mouthfeel with both hazelnuts and almonds in the mix. Toasted sourdough and spice round out the wine. It’s layered and complex with plenty of length. A bit of x-factor here. 94
