2012 Jed Malbec

jed malbecI attended a Sommeliers Australia tasting of Argentinian wines earlier this year and was delighted to find that not all Argentinian Malbec was as jammy as the exports I had previously encountered on Australian retail shelves and in restaurants. The Argentinian ambassador was there and still pushing the porty gear but it was wines like this from the higher altitude Uco Valley that really shone. You couldn’t help but see the parallels with Australian exports…

Just a notch above medium-bodied with bucolic tannin woven through the purple and red fruits. It’s chocolatey and intense but the structure harnesses the richer elements well. A touch floral and peppery too. Went well with charred rib-eye on the bone and mash. 88
