2013 Lark Hill Viognier

imageAfter nailing the 2012 Chardonnay, Lark Hill have done the same with the 2013 Viognier. The words ‘Biodynamic Wine’ are proudly emblazoned on these bottles and I feel that’s only right given Chris Carpenter’s commitment to this viticultural practice.

What really makes the wine is that it’s varietal veracity is unquestionable yet it’s vitality and nimbleness at 12.5% alcohol contribute to its sense of flow and refreshment. Slightly subdued on the nose at first with florals shining brightly, it bursts into life on the palate. All cumquats, fresh apricot flesh and skin, ginger spice, french vanilla cheese cake, creamed honey and lemony citrus. It has body but it isn’t oily or overly viscous. A touch creamy perhaps but with good acid cut. I suspect it will put on weight with more time. Drink now or later depending on your preference. 93
