2012 A.Rodda Willow Lake Vineyard Yarra Valley Chardonnay

20130828-111718.jpgI believe we’ll see three 2012 Chardonnays coming from the 33 year-old Willow Lake vineyard in Gladysdale this year. There’s this effort from Adrian Rodda, an Oakridge 864 model and Caroline Mooney from Bird on a Wire is also making one. It would be fun to taste them together but right now that’s not a possibility.

White flowers and sulphides to the fore with lemon meringue, hazelnuts, sourdough and nectarine all making a significant impact. It’s linear with plenty of endurance. The acidity is driving yet soundly encased. A tangy wine with a chalky dry finish of immense refreshment. There’s certainly room for improvement should you lay some down in a cool, dark place. 93+
