2012 Meerea Park XYZ Chardonnay

meerea xyz chardMeerea Park Chardonnays are generally quite tropical but there is a botrytis-like syrupy sweetness that ups the ante here. 2012 won’t be remembered fondly by most in the Hunter Valley. Rain plagued the vintage.

Glacé pineapple, ripe melon, apricot nectar and fig. The influence of some savoury, spicy French oak is more than welcome. For all that richness the acidity doesn’t do a bad job of tidying things up. Obviously the choice to forego malolactic fermentation was a wise one. Drink young with creamy dishes or maybe even some pork belly for best results I’d suggest. 86
