A few tech specs before we get to a very charming wine indeed. The grapes come from vines of 40 years average age planted in Rioja Alavesa vineyards in the Basque Alava province. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and the wine is then matured in American and French oak for 36 months. It’s 100% Tempranillo and oozes class.
Lithe and structured with keen acidity and gratifying silty tannin. Heavily spiced dark cherries, mushrooms and earth, rubbed tobacco, hung meat and vanilla on both the palate and nose. Some sarsaparilla root and leather as well. Extremely complex, rather savoury, very sophisticated with a taste that is indubitably of the ground. I can see this living a long time in the cellar. It’s balanced, long and still maintains a core of primary fruit that shouldn’t fade anytime soon. 95

Bob – I know United Cellars have it http://www.unitedcellars.com.au/products/vina-muriel-rioja-gran-reserva-2004 That’s where I was considering buying some for myself. It’s imported by Fourth Wave Wine.
Hi Bob
We only brought in about 20 dozen which – as Jeremy mentioned – United Cellars got the majority of. More coming in approx 6-7 weeks but United’s price is a good one.
cheers
Sanjay (from Fourth Wave)
