2012 Oakvale Hunter Valley L’Oeuf Semillon

OakvaleSemillon2012Web.152958Fermented and matured for 12 months in concrete eggs. From the press release:

“We have conducted a lot of wine trials over the past couple of years,” explained winemaker James Becker.  “The concrete amphora Semillon is one of these. We are finding that the concrete is a lovely balance between oak and stainless steel. The egg shape tends to help produce a gentle fermentation.  This, combined with the porous nature of the concrete, is producing wines with more palate weight, texture and fruit intensity.”

Disappointing even within the context of a difficult vintage for the Hunter Valley. Assorted and generic citrus alongside cut lettuce characters. Flavour is anterior and modest. Absolutely no length. 81 Below Average
