2011 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Riesling

The Margaret River is hardly synonymous with Riesling and 2011 was a warmish year. The two haven’t combined particularly well. There’s a blunt mustiness here and whilst it improved on the second day of tasting, it never truly went away.

Pithy rind moves into suggestions of kerosene. The usual citrus suspects of lime and lemon are accompanied by a fair amount of the orange hued varieties. Some aniseed and spice too with a hint of talc on the back palate. Overall though, waxed rind dominates leaving freshness in the wings. There’s no great length either. You’ll find better for the price. Average
