I’ve got big wraps on Tasmanian Riesling. It often has softer natural acidity and more interesting traits to offer in its youth. This snappy little number from Derwent Estate epitomises what I’m getting at.
There’s more weight on the palate here than you’ll find in most Clare or Eden versions of the same age. It’s still spry with mineral acidity but there’s a distinctly rounded aspect to the mouthfeel too. So agreeable.
Lime over lemon with zesty, almost sherbet notes. Wet pebbles and granny smith apples (some lightly baked) linger as it exits. It’s very floral too. Sour citric edges contribute further balance and complexity. Simply delicious and quite capable of aging too I suspect. Excellent
