2010 Tarrawarra Estate Reserve Chardonnay

It’s a 2010 Yarra Valley Chardonnay. What more do you need to know? ;-)

Well, it has been my experience that Tarrawarra make their Chardonnay a little different to the current Yarra vogue. A bit more palate weight, a little more winemaker input. It’s good to see this kind of diversity, especially when the wine is as special as this.

25% new barriques, seemingly of the spiced nougat variety. Regular lees stirring adds flavour, texture and savouriness – it’s extremely well judged and the fruit doesn’t get lost in it, as can sometimes be the case. It doesn’t obscure some lovely florals either.

Plenty of persistent grapefruit with some green apple and white peach. Nectarine too but no-one likes a shopping list. This is detailed, balanced, intelligent and tasty. Fine acid and pleasing minerality seal the deal. On day two a hint of cashew and butter…a suggestion of things to come perhaps, as this should cellar well over the mid-term at least. Excellent
