This isn’t the most recent release of the Chatterbox but winemaker Richard Bate kindly sent it to me along with the 2010 (which has already been reviewed here). It’s a nice wine – well priced, bright and friendly. The grapes are mainly sourced from Koonunga and the warmth of the vintage has concentrated the fruit flavour and imparted a sweet and slightly confected edge. I prefer this year’s model but I’d be happy to drink either.
A very expressive nose of red currants and berries, dried flowers, toast and licorice. It’s nearing full bodied but a limpid personality ensures a high degree of drinkability. French oak is tastefully applied and there’s a welcome amount of smudgy tannin. Very much open for business and pleasure. Good
