2007 Patina Reserve Chardonnay

You hear a lot of talk about the Orange region and Chardonnay but unfortunately I’m yet to taste an example that’s excited me. This one from Patina, held back according to the press release ‘so that [it gets] to our customers with the extra layers of maturation and complexity’, is no different. It’s solid and it has developed quite nicely but there’s no epiphany here.

Caramel and butterscotch to go with the peach and nectarine. It’s creamy and gentle but there’s enough grapefruit flavoured acidity to hustle it along its line. Has all the charms and comforts of a partner you’ve been dating for four or five years… Good
